Position Summary:
As a Power Systems Engineer, you will play an integral part in delivering renewable project outcomes across a variety of sustainable energy infrastructure projects. This is a ground floor opportunity for the right candidate to establish and grow the power systems engineering capability within an established electrical engineering business with a proud 25-year history. Your technical experience will enable you to lead grid connection projects including power systems modelling studies and analysis of renewable grid connections for new solar, wind, and/or battery connections to the grid. You will be fully conversant in the grid connection process from concept to commissioning and have exceptional customer/stakeholder management experience to compliment your technical capabilities.
As a Lead Power Systems Engineer, you will play an integral part in delivering renewable project outcomes across a variety of sustainable energy infrastructure projects. Key elements of the role include:
- Undertaking grid interconnection and system planning studies for wind, solar, energy storage, and hybrid generating systems.
- Delivering concept designs and grid due diligence for new connections.
- Performing power system studies, including grid-connection, network planning, system strength impact assessments, and control system tuning.
- Conducting harmonic assessments and harmonic filter design studies.
- Preparing grid connection application documents and technical reports.
- Providing technical advice to a wide range of stakeholders, including developers, OEMs, network services providers, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensuring compliance with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform load flow analysis, fault analysis, stability studies, and reliability assessments.
- Conduct power quality studies and recommend solutions to improve system performance.
- Interpret analytical outcomes, draw conclusions, and provide recommendations to resolve power system issues.
- Plan, undertake, and analyse simulations using power system tools like PSS/E, PSS Sincal, PSCAD/Dig Silent Power Factory.
- Provide project management support and deliver assignments to achieve targets for scope, time, quality, and cost.
- Ensure all power systems comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety codes.
- Prepare high-quality project reports, documentation, and technical specifications.
- Effective verbal communications with various stakeholders.
- Manage power system projects from concept through completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budgets.
- Support the development and delivery of projects to identify and resolve emerging challenges in the power system.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, contractors, and stakeholders.
Skills and Experience:
Essential Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems or power electronics; post-graduate qualifications are highly regarded.
- 3+ years of experience in power systems engineering, including power system modelling, analysis, operations, and commissioning.
- Proficiency in power system analysis tools such as PSS/E, PSS Sincal, PSCAD/Dig Silent Power Factory.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles related to transmission, distribution, generation, and control systems.
- Knowledge of NER s5.2 and s5.3 technical requirements and AEMO’s Power Systems Modelling guidelines.
Other Skills and Attributes:
- Experience in developing technical solutions for complex network and connection issues.

- Moderate to high-level knowledge of coding in python/software language.
- Knowledge of distribution network service providers and their power system requirement.
