About The Role
The Project Engineer reports to the Design Team Manager and is responsible for producing approved electrical and lighting designs for distribution networks, councils and major infrastructure projects across Victoria.
As a Project Engineer you are required to produce electrical and lighting designs of the highest quality, in accordance with the agreed customer timeframe and budget. All electrical designs must comply with the relevant electrical distribution authority technical requirements as well as the applicable Australian Standards.
Proactive engagement with private customers and distribution authority stakeholders and other internal and external stakeholders is a must, in order to identify and resolve issues impacting design, and to ensure that client expectations are managed throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Engineers are required to work in the office a minimum of three (3) days per week and foster teamwork and collaboration across the project portfolio. As a member of the Design team, you are required to lead by example and demonstrate the Powerplant values of People, Performance and Pride in everything that you do.

Primary Responsibilities:
Manage Safety
- Always comply with Powerplant’s HSEQ Policy and Procedures.
- Ensure the SiD (Safety in Design) risk assessment process is followed.
Manage Customers
- Provide the Customer with proactive communications and regular updates.
- Ensure our obligations to the customer are always defined, clear and understood.
- Attend Customer meetings and site visits, as required.
Manage Technical Solution
- Understand project drivers and parameters to be satisfied through design.
- Set and Approve Design Concepts early in Design.
- Set communications plans for projects to drive outcomes consistent with Stakeholder Needs.
- Initiate design review meetings to identify and resolve potential compliance and construction risks prior to submission, obtain design approval from the relevant distribution network authority.
- Assume responsibility for the technical solution, review and submit design changes as required for the life of the project.
Manage Design Quality
- Always strive to achieve the highest level of design quality for every project.
- Ensure Powerplant’s quality assurance process is followed at all times.
Manage Customer Schedule
- Maintain the project schedule in Wrike often, identify critical path schedule risks and implement mitigation steps to maintain customer expectations.
- Maintain a Wrike dashboard to monitor project status as well as an overview of the relevant portfolio of projects.
Demonstrate Leadership
- Support pre-sales and project initiation activities, define the scope of work and/or concept plan to ensure each project is initiated with the correct technical approach.
- Regularly review project schedules, identifying risks and proactively undertake the necessary actions to eradicate schedule slippage.
- Monitor quality, ensuring the QA process is followed and all designs submitted are of the highest possible quality.
- Support the ongoing professional development of design and drafting staff to continuously improve their technical knowledge.
Skills and Experience:
- Degree qualified in electrical engineering.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in developing electrical and/or lighting designs for distribution network authority approval, covering underground and overhead up to 66KV.
- A solid grasp of the project management discipline, capable of simultaneously managing safety, scope, quality, schedule, and cost, for a given project.
- Sound knowledge of AutoCAD Microstation, Perfectlite and AGI32 industry drafting standards.
The following design experience will be well regarded:
- Demonstrated experience in the use of electronic design systems including network GIS systems.
- Design development to AS3000, AS7000 and/or AS2067.
- VicRoads / DoT Standards.
- MTM / VLine Standards.
